Can anyone ID these from what's left?
« on: January 18, 2016, 11:01 »
I'm not sure what these were, anyone have a guess from what's left ? They look to have been sown in a drift, the seeds look to have been feathery but the birds have made off with most of them.

That's a difficult one.  Evening primrose comes to mind, but only a guess.

If they are an annual there may be enough seed dropped for them to grow again.

It's no fun if it's too easy Aunty  :D

I think they're annuals from the way they have been sown, there's another patch next to them of something else which makes me think they were to brighten up a rather green boring border.

I'd guess at Lysimachia vulgaris (yellow loosestrife). Bright yellow flowers, would certainly brighten a dull area, spreads a bit but not too invasive.

Yes, definitely could be.

Loostrife is an annual, whereas evening primrose is a bianual.

Lysimachia vulgaris is perennial.

Certainly looks about right, flowers and leaves match what's left, I'll leave the area to see if anything comes back this year. Any idea on group #2 - I'll try and get a close up picture this morning.

From a distance the second group look like Michaelmas Daisies but would need a closer look to make a more informed guess.

Can you take some pics of their leaves and a separate one of the stems so we can see their growth habit.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.
