i  want to raise some chooks for eating but cannot have any cockerals crowing as this would p**s the old bag nextdoor off. she moans about our hens. so do i have any options or should i give up this plan.

If you get specific meat birds, like the ones we get from Poulet Anglais, the JA757's are matured for eating in 8-10 weeks, with no crowing, the brown Coloryields between 10-12 weeks, no crowing and the Master Gris 12-14 weeks, maybe 16, and they had only just started to crow.

It's different if you have cockerals from other breeds where you have to keep them longer to get them fat enough to eat, they then crow too.

How many were you thinking of?  As Poulet does go down your way to deliver I'm sure, he could arrange to meet you somewhere en route!?  As long as you don't want 2!!!!   but I do know he has sold 10 before, although he prefers orders for over 1,000!!!!!! lol

We had the Hubbards and by 10 wks old the boys were crowing but not loudly but I will say by the time they reached 16 wks it was time for the noisey devils to go!

They are 80p each delivered to a mutually conventient spot as near to you as he can!  He also does hatching eggs at a good % of hatch if you are interested, but couriers for sending eggs are not cheap anymore!

Give him a call and see what he says.  He will help if he can, he's a lovely man!!!!
