I have recently been using - Virgin Coconut Oil".   My eyebrows have been falling out, also, whilst I have very strong and long finger nails, the cuticles and sides of my fingers (gardening without gloves !) get very dry and cracked.   So far the coconut has been helping both.  Further questioning has told me that it is very good for nails, skin, hair etc, and harmless.    Perhaps rubbing coconut oil will help your poor, sore nails.  regards, Mrs Bouquet

I don't use coconut oil, but use Palmer's Cocoa Butter and find it wonderful for dry skin and nails :)

Just a though that you might see you Dr to check for Coeliac disease as that can cause a lack of absorption of food including nutrients, I was diagnosed some 3 years ago and never knew I had it, I can eat gluten containing foods with no obvious deleterious effect, so some people may never know they have it.

It might be that you have a fungal infection Alan & that would need treating differently.

Just an update. The advice was flawed as despite me taking the multi-vitamins for the past four years, the crumbling nail ailment has returned this year. So far, I've lost two finger nails with another four showing the same symptoms
It could be a fungal infection, or even a type of dermatitis Alan, so it's probably is worth popping to see your GP.  :)
