Goin to plant some lovage for the flavour of celery without the string
I've heard that it grows like a tree to 4/5 feet so not in the herb raised bed but perhaps alongside by the side fencing.
Can you tell me what it looks like and is this a good idea?

It is a perennial so choose a place where it can stay for 3 years or more.  Plant on the north end of your plot, ideally.

'Cos if it grows 6ft tall, it will overshadow anything to the North of it.

Mine grew 6ft one year and only lived 3 years!  It is susceptable wind damage when it gets that tall - my tall inflorescence got broken by a gale one year.
