Peas gone mad!!
« on: March 29, 2014, 13:39 »
I started my peas off in the greenhouse and they are now getting fairly huge (sweet peas, sugar snap, alderman, kelvedon) when should I plant them outside and should I frost fleece them? Thanks!!

Harden them off and get them out ASAP.

Peas do not need a greenhouse! (IMHO)  :tongue2:

Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Thanks for the reply DD :o) only started them off in there as last year my little peas got eaten by birds! I'm not going to be able to put them out and take them in again every day and night, should I put them out and frost fleece them do you think to allow them to harden ?

I don't know your location, (putting it in your profile helps in these cases), but where I am overnights are forecast to be mild and I would just put them outside with no protection.

I'm on the Herts/London border and have just sowed my first set directly outside today with no protection. I did the same last year it was fine

No matter what, netting deters birds - oh and slug pellets around the seedlings to deter snails in particular.
