the yellow/orange flowers are cosmos very easy to grow from seed. as you see they are tall but they have no surport and they still stand up well. will add a list of other plants soon. wendy

Just been round the garden with me phone and took these, from a veg point of view it is still a work in progress. Hope you don't mind a few pictures.

Please note the following:

Those trees on view are probably the tallest on the island:

All the hedges are Fuschia (Yes we don't get frosts up here, just lots of wind).

Main view of garden from conservatory (Under reconstruction):

View of just rebuilt greenhouse and coldframes (The kale was in the spot before the cold frame was built around it):

View across one of the borders.

View of what was and will soon be again my veg patch, it will have four main raised beds 16ft by 4ft along with other bits and bobs.

View looking back showing house, garage, conservatory, greenhouse etc

Looking back showing lawn and a pond (Its overgrown but down by the bench:

Main border (Perenialls are mainly early stuff so mostly annuals on show:

Other border:

Home built conservatory being re-built:

Detail of re-building work:

Work shop and washing:

Hedges and showing the greenhouse (Just)

PS For any one not sure where I live, it is an island called Stronsay up in the Orkney Isles:

Probably been the best summer we have had for the twenty odd years I have lived up here, with just a small wobble at the start of July to detract from a long and relatively warm (Well warm for up here) and dry year.

Yes, should get the conservatory rebuilt next week, then on to the veg plot ready for digging, I plan doing one bed at a time with the bed for the brassica plot going first (I have a lot of greens and kale plants on the go).

One thing I didn't mention was the shed up at the far end of the garden just shown in the last picture (You can just see the corner of the roof). It would have originally been the generator shed (Mains electricity only got here in the 70's) but many years ago we kept chickens in there.

Me and the missus just had egg on toast for lunch, we discussed the eggs, and decided we are going back into chicken keeping.

All we need do is fence off the area that runs down to the Rhubarb in the greenhouse picture and then get hold of some young birds after Christmas.

I wonder if I should get a pig to keep them company :-)

Yes it's Fuschia. Grows like a weed up here and will reach 15ft but looks untidy, so best trimmed like a hedge.

I will take a picture of one with flowers on for you.
