I've just been to Poundstretcher and they are selling a kiddies size garden spade. Just the right size for making a shallow trench for peas and the like. I't about 3ft long and the metal blade is about 8" across and pointed.
OK if you don't mind lookin to much af a prat.
You could always make a dibber out of the handle.
