blunt spade

i have a wilkinson sword stainless steel spade but its not as sharp as it was.can i sharpen it with a file or will it ruin the stainless aspect of it and cause it to rust?

Stainless Steel is not a coating so should not cause a problem.

Stainless steel actually rust less and is not rust proof.

I intend making a gravel box this year for my digging eqpt. This is made of sand and old engine oil. This aids cleaning and helps stop the tools from rusting.

just use it the soil will put a nice edge on it for you

Sharpen it with a file. A spade should be sharp. The soil can help it keep sharp but cannot put a keen edge on it.

the only tool you need to sharpen is an hoe ohh and your knife
