Latest chick has a bleeding umbilical.  Have held it together until it has mostly stopped and have now left chick in incy.  Looked quite a lot of blood for a little animal. It now looks exhaused.  Has been hatching all day.  Is there anything I can do?

Hope did it get on over night?

If it has stopped bleeding then the most I would do is perhaps a smear of antiseptic over the umbilicus and maybe not even that it it is clean and dry.

Hi Kate
The chick survived the night and is quite alert, cheeping and moving.  I'm letting nature take it's course and leaving well alone.  I was a scary amount of blood for such a little mite.  It looks strong enough so a few more hours in the incy and it'll be ready to go in the brooder with the rest. No further signs of bleeding. Phew!

It is now in with the others.  Amazing how much difference 24 hours makes.  It looks tiny compared to the others   I'll get some piccies later.  It's a Silver Laced wyandotte btw
