conifer roots
« on: February 10, 2013, 18:51 »
Hi, I just moved house, the garden is a lovely size except there are three very well matured Laylandii trees. They are approximately 10ft away from the brickwork to my house, a number of people have suggested we get rid of them, I am starting to agree, they do give us privacy and we do get a lot of wildlife, I have compromised with my hubby, they can go if i can plant an apple and a pear tree, how do I get rid of such huge trees? If I am lefy with roots how do I get rid? the quickest way

Get them felled and the stumps chipped out - it's not cheap but it's a darn site easier than trying to do it yourself  ::)
Any remaining roots will  be fairly near the surface, so dig up any big ones that are in the way ;) If you plan to plant fruit trees in their place the soil will need a lot of improving!

Thanks Mos, yes they drain the good out of everything, I would rather pay and get shut to be honest  :)
