Hi, I just moved house, the garden is a lovely size except there are three very well matured Laylandii trees. They are approximately 10ft away from the brickwork to my house, a number of people have suggested we get rid of them, I am starting to agree, they do give us privacy and we do get a lot of wildlife, I have compromised with my hubby, they can go if i can plant an apple and a pear tree, how do I get rid of such huge trees? If I am lefy with roots how do I get rid? the quickest way

Get them felled and the stumps chipped out - it's not cheap but it's a darn site easier than trying to do it yourself   
Any remaining roots will  be fairly near the surface, so dig up any big ones that are in the way If you plan to plant fruit trees in their place the soil will need a lot of improving!

Thanks Mos, yes they drain the good out of everything, I would rather pay and get shut to be honest
