Sorry to read & see your problems Barnsley Bill. This weather is enough to turn a saint into a demon.

Today it was off with their heads on my plot for 8 rows of spuds. The Big B has arrived.

Did you have the same problem last year?

8 rows for me yesterday. Last year I did the same thing on 8th August so it has arrived earlier this year and will, no doubt, reduce the crop size.

i had to dig up all my cara and kestrel due to blight   :( did get 50lb for 2 10foot rows of each they look ok but will keep an eye on them i'm storing them in the shed

hopeful i can hold on to my desiree a bit longer just cut back the bad bits on the plant
i'v dug up one and there very small

so next year i think i will plant the same but hope the weather is not so wet and humid finger crossed

can i just chop the stems of the desiree and leave the potato in the grown to get bigger or will they rot

also all my tom's have got blight even the one's in the greenhouse i would like to get rid of  them but my sister wants to see if the tom's will go red i don't think they will i think they will rot first

i...............................stood and stared in dismay!

I feel for you barnsley-bill, my plots been underwater like yours for a week!

What is dead/rotted.........Potatoes ( managed to save enough for a meal tho, our first pots ever)
                                         cabbages ( 2 varieties)
                                         swedes
turnips (snowball, lovely. why did i not pick em, they were ready)
                                         carrots
                                         beetroot
                                         cauliflowers
                                         parsnips
                                         sprout plants

What survived..................some spring sown onions
                                         leeks
runner beans ( the 2 that showed out of 20)
french beans  (only just decided to show)
                                         autumn sown garlic (now harvested)
autumn sown onions ( nice size and lovely)
                                         the weeds!!!!!

Nice day at he plot today, sun shining, 19deg.

Harvested some broad beans, a few peas, spring onion, rhubarb, carrots and raspberries.  Stood staring at a raised bed and wondered what was different and realised a whole two rows of turnip seedlings had been demolished by slugs!  Give things a general feed with some nettle tea and managed to get a cup full in the face, lovely  :).

Went to nice tea party in the Association marquee, pouring outside.

did manage to wade to the plot eventually. Picked last globe artichoke and first go at the jostaberry bush. Got 200g of berries only, but obviously the birds have been at it - next year once the jungle area is cleared we'll be able to cage it. Still, there are plenty of green berries left on the bus, and it's a new experience as had never even heard of them before.  Will just stew them wth a bit of sugar I guess.   Didn't bother digging any potatoes, too soggy.

Runners have grown well since they went in last week, sweetcorn and leeks doing ok, lone cauli recovering from slug attack, but one of the two pumpkins only has one leaf left :(.  Slugs everywhere.
