Went to check on the damage from the gales we had the other night.. Only the lean-to roof was ripped off my shed so cant sit in the shade under it for a while!! Will modify and make a stronger overlap tomorrow..

Gave the paths a good strim, hoed and sowed some turnips and kohlrabi.

Took up the white sprouting broccoli (past it's best and covered in aphids) and gave it to the chickens.

Late PSB still going strong so brought a bagful home

Planted some Stuttgarter onions sets, and some red, yellow and orange gladioli corms, and sowed godetia seeds.

Pruned all the ground level branches off the gooseberries so that all fruit will be clear of the mulch this year.

Took out some long, no-flowering branches from the victoria plum, folloing good advice on here  :D

Mr Sunny built part of our new permanent 1.5 m tall cloche-come- cold frame.

checked on the peas, onions, broad beans, cauliflowers, pak choi and the carrot and raddish seedlings to see if the frost has affected them  - as far as i can tell it isn't as the broadbeans and peas growing fast. Hopefully if the weathers nice tommorow i'll be putting a thrid row of peas/ mangetout (carouby de mussane) out tommorow, which is a new variety to me - so fingers crossed!

Quick visit due to rain -  I dug up another barrow-load of weeds, stones and roots.  Husband Finished off the first raised bed and managed to get it about 3/4 full.  Kids whinged, mostly.

It is 2m square, 1.5m tall at the highest end, 40 cm tall at the shortest --- note my accurate use of measurements there

Had a week away so went down for the first time in a week today - bit weedy with the rain but none too bad.

Gave all the beds a raking over, admired the strawberry plants with flowers forming, was given a third variety of raspberry by a plot neighbour.

Oh and i got the farmer to put 3 bucket loads of manure over the fence of my lotty for me.... saves all the hassle using the wheel barrow for 3 hours

Mr B did lots of weeding on the plot.  Sorted out a bed at the top right next to the gap where the gate should be as my plans indicate a shortage of space.  Full of glass and other rubbish.  He cut his finger quite badly and arrived home dripping blood.  He says the allotment gate and lock looks as if a vampire has a plot - we have to lock the gate going in and out on our site.

I concentrated on the garden and dug over the two tiny beds we have at the bottom of the garden.   Once again battling the fibrous roots from the plum tree.  I only grow salads and things with not much root depth.  Planted some leaf beet.   Cleared up the glass from the smashed pane from the cold frame.   Broken glass seems to be a feature today.    The frame got broken by a visiting football from the neighbour's children.  They came round to confess and offered to pay, which I thought was quite sweet.  I'll just replace it.

Sorted out the pots for this year's tomatoes.
