Decided to tackle some of the overgrown marginal plants in my goldfish pond - needed a saw to cut back the water irises which are now lying in a stinking heap of pond mud and other lord-knows-what that I fished out by hand. Yuk!

I always leave the stinking heap by the side of the pond for a day or so that the beasties have a chance to get back into the water - except for the leeches which always get stuck to my rubber gloves <shudder>

Can confirm that although showing only 10C it felt really hot in the sun, but that the pond water definitely didn't!

No frog spawn yet, if that doesn't change I will have mixed feelings - in previous years I've had enormous problems trying to keep the fish away from the poor tadpoles.  :(

I find an old bread-saw works well for pond iris... minding the fish of course!

Frogs spawned a couple of weeks ago here but with today's temperatures I guess they might be having second thoughts  - chilly! :(

Dig Dig dig - had lunch with another 'plotter' - he gave me some homebrew wine that took the chill off!  Plot still shutting at 4pm so have to start packing up about 1540.  Cant wait for the clocks to go forward.  Then the gate is shut at dusk.....

I'm not contemplating beans or curcubits for another 3-4 weeks.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Snuck out of the house for a few hours today.. (the joys of working from home!!) Made a huge bonfire of pallets and weeds... will scrape up the potsh tomorrow..

Transplanted my 30 broad beans into their bed now that it is ready..

Finished digging and preparing for the second batch of onions, then managed to plant them all before it got dark... 6:30 and still just light..
Now a member of the 10 Ton club.... 2013  harvested 588 Kg from 165 sq mt..

All the way from my allotment in beautiful Derbyshire. I'm in year 3 of my allotment and wish I'd caught the bug years ago, things growing from strength to strength

Yesterday I lifted leeks for dinner, dug over the old strawberry bed and trimmed the plum trees a little more (hoping that I have the right time of year!)

Just planted my first lot of radish seeds. Could be a bit early, and the seeds are (I think) from 2 years back, so probably won't come up. But nothing ventured.... Same with an old pack of peas (which I've brought into the conservatory to give them a helping hand...)
