King Edward plot now dug, cleaned and raked; that can settle for a few weeks. Replanted the nine or so Jermour shallots that have been in the ground about three weeks unmolested.
I really must get that air rifle so that I can put the local pigeons out of their stupidity.
It's a pity twitch isn't edible as well.  :D

got my 2nd 5ft raised bed in and dug up another large trug full of nettle root and took it to the tip.  I dont want it on my plot any more and don't have the opportunity to make a hot enough compost bin to kill it off.

I think its nettle anyway.  Its white ish yellow, about the size of pencil but flattened top & bottom, seems quite rubbery.  When broken its white inside

Been to the plot & sorted the strawberry bed out.replanted some strawbs that had popped out, potted up more runners into my hanging baskets to go into the garden for forcing to go with the ones I'd done in the autumn. Then I brought them home & will put them in the greenhouse tomorrow. Then I hoed the onions & garlic & weeded the daffodils.Picked some leeks & dug up some parsnips & helped myself to some parsley from my neighbours plot( he said I could)

We've planted our first potatoes of the year today, a experimental 3 bags of swift ( a bag each as we're having a comp to see who can grow the harvested yield) in the greenhouse on half plot.

Fingers crossed  ;)

I dug.

I shall not be able to move tomorrow.

Or the day after that.

Oh well, it looks nice!

Took the kitchen waste to the plot to add to the bean trench -- half way along now  :D

Dug up the last four parsnips, and harvested the first real meal's worth of Purple Sprouting Broccoli.

Flattened out some mole hills and made sure the tunnels were filled in too -- in the autumn onion bed  :tongue2:

Finally dragged my other half up to plot for our first family visit of the year. We didn't stay longer than a couple of hours but got a good amount done. I'm almost at the end of the tall weeds, just a few more feet to go, and half the area for the greenhouse (currently hard compacted weed turf) has been turned over ready for digging. The eldest (7) is getting better with his graduate spade, managed to dig a good couple of holes for hubby to fall into  :tongue2:.

I also took a gamble and sowed some hardy seeds. They're old packets so if they don't germinate I won't have lost anything :)

Made a start planting this year's spuds. 10 x 2.5m rows.
I know some  maybe horrified by this, but I would have planted next weekend anyway
(a plan that has developed over the last few years).
But the weather forecast is for reasonable temps and this is Cornwall with it's moderated climate. Even last year despite a quite cold winter for Cornwall, I planted on March 6th without any issue.

Also made a start planting out the shallots.

Watered the fruit canes I planted last weekend and continued to dig over the plot.

Now toying with the idea of trying to make a raised bed from old pallets rather then buy expensive boarding.

I put in some stuttgarter giant sets - about thirty or so. Also some red onions that I forget the name of. It has been incredibly mild in Antrim so I have a few clear boxes set out to warm up a patch for early broad beans.

Garlic is coming on well and I have a few daff flowers out too.

Last year and the year before there wasnt a flower anywhere till mid April. Weather, eh!

Oh and I also prepared about ten foot of a row for early potatoes. I will wait another two weeks before risking putting them in.

Crazily enough we've had daffs out in full bloom here for a fortnight or so, and I'm up in Fife, Scotland

Not seen a single flake of snow this winter. Sort of makes up for last year, where I was utterly snowed in for at least a fortnight.
