Next years tom's.
« on: July 08, 2022, 09:02 »
Good morning everyone,  I've had a try at growing huge tomatoes but always failed (not miserably, but failed) to get "what it said on the packet".  I've seen HUGE tom's on youtube and would like to emulate.

Does anyone know of a variety or source of seeds that does very well?

Cheers,  Tony.
I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !

I grow a couple that are big beefsteak types and save the seed each year - Chocolate Cherokee and Black Sea Man.  The former grow massive, the latter pretty big.  I’ve also got Rief Red Heart growing from seeds MoS saved.  They are big as well (if I get it right).

I’m happy to drop some seeds in the post to you if you want later on in the year. Mine don’t get any special treatment. Just grown in builders buckets in the greenhouse and fed and watered, so they should do fine for you  :)

Real Seeds often have interesting stuff but you might need to wait until this seasons crop is ready as they often sell out.  They also seem worth supporting as they do deals for those on low income too.

I'm growing some Gigantomo tomatoes this year, supposed to be the world's biggest.. they're currently dwarfing the rest in my greenhouse!   :)

Good afternoon everyone, just been mulching the sweetcorn and runner beans with the leafmoald I've left to rot down for the last three years.  The leaves on top were brown but unchanged but the level below looked excellent.

many thanks for all your responses,  I've trawling the web and I'm amazed at all the varieties available, from places such as:- Reggio Calabria in Croatia, Horgos and Vojvadina Serbia and Giadinello Italy among many others, not fogetting places in UK.

While trawling I found these,

Quite spectacleir!
P.S. I should like to take up your offer newshoot.

Cheers,  Tony.

I shall stick it in my diary to get in touch around September once I have saved some seeds.  I have some 2021 ones of the Black Sea Man and Chocolate Cherokee if all else fails, but hopefully there will be a decent tomato crop this year.

P.S. those eBay tomatoes look a bit scary to me
