Introducing new hens.
« on: June 05, 2012, 21:32 »
I have 11 hens and a cockerel  at the moment (they are about 32 weeks old). I have just been given 3 silkie chicks who are 10 weeks old :D They look really small compared to the older ones so I have separated them from the older ones. I have nesting boxes in a shed built up all along one wall which I can alternate the size of by moving boards etc and can put cages on the front. The chicks are in a long nesting box with a cage on the front so the older hens can see the chicks and they can see them.

When do you think the best time is to introduce the chicks to the hens?

Thanks  :)
