First year I've grown Lark, and I was pleased to get 2 cobs per plant.  For those that have grown it before is that the Norm?, or unusual?

Two or 3 usual and because I shake them most of the Second were fully populated with corn as well - Only about 3 were not - Not many 3rd made it to maturity but next year I'm going to get the pollen on my hands and apply to the tassels as well as shake.

For some reason (well, no reason actually  ::)) I've always assumed that Swift and Lark are so similar as to be pretty much interchangeable - it seems that the decent summer has meant that most people have had a good result with most varieties, but are there any others who find that Lark reliably produces the 'magic' 2 or even more cobs per plant almost irrespective of the weather?
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

The cobs had the odd dark yellow cornells as if they had ripened unevenly and they tasted very earthy and chewy.
Might be over ripe, or not enough water during ripening, but might they have cross pollinated with a (neighbour's) different variety?  (Seems unlikely, as a cause, if the ones picked earlier were fine)

Look at the size of my cob (I've got particularly large hands!!)

I think you may have hit it on the head with not enough water but there are neighbours crops very close.
I do try not to water anything outside.

Bicolor variety called "Double Standard" - loved up to its name because the white kernels were tasteless and only got one usable cob per plant and another tiny one that never matured. Wouldn't plant gain.

Lark it is for me next year.

Baldy.  Behave  :nowink:

Swift here in 2 sowing 3 weeks apart gave me a solid 1/2 cobs per plant all good eating, but they cropped over 3 weeks total and all long finished now- some on the lottie site have still to harvest so I might gap the sowings a little better next year.  Hmmm Lark, yes maybe will give it a try  :tongue2:

Lark. 2 cobs per plant. I was amazed by how well they did. It was a good summer.

Have grown lark and swift this year. Both done extremely well. At least two cobs off each plant and for the most part full. I didn't water much, must be the weather we've been having.

I wasn't holding out much hope for our sweetcorn this year due to the following problem:

Anyhow we've grown Lark and Swift and both have done extremely well in the end with at least two cobs off every plant. Very happy. A good year for sweetcorn for us :)

Incredible f1 here too, about 25 plants approx 5-6 feet high, all producing at least one good cob, even transplanted some from pots into the ground without any problem.

I love fresh sweetcorn!

Same packet as last year, but only half the size.  No idea why, but still got 2 slightly smaller cobs per plant
