Snotty eggs.
« on: April 19, 2009, 09:42 »
Hi again, have just been and collected my eggs for breakfast. My youngest hen (martha) has been laying for about 2 weeks now but her whites are always rather snotty  .
Havent experienced this with any of my other girls, will she get better, she is about 5months old roughly.

Thanks HEnrietta. :)

do you mean that the egg whites are still a bit runny when you hard / soft boil them?

if so then this is perfectly normal but you shoud wait about 5 days to a week if you want to use them for eggs & soldiers to allow the whites to harden.

if it's not that then I dunno!

mmmmmm not really...... how can i explain, when the egg is broken.... you know how you always get a part of the egg white that literally looks like mmmmm... a transparent boggie  (snot)(excuse the spelling) ??? well her whole egg white is like it when raw. When it is cooked it  almost disintergrates.  I'm not sure myself any more.......

Sorry i'm a bit vague!!!!!

Can't help, Henrietta, but it doesn't sound very appetising to me.

I think I know what you mean and they will improve with storage.  Try keeping them at room temp for a week before use.

In a very fresh, good quality egg, the albumen is jelly-like and may
have a cloudy appearance.
