Title: Sneezing, snotty broody
Post by: JaK on June 07, 2011, 13:57
Just got my broody hen of the nest for food, water... She had a couple of sneezes and she looked a little snotty. What can I do for her? Should I buy some kind of poultry tonic? Really don't want to have to take her off brood if I can help it.

hi hopefully just a cold..

mine a one a while ago and once one has it they all get it.

yes as you said stick a tonic in the water along with cider apple viniger (and watch her perk up)

a few days of this and it soon goes like a human cold.. might be worth giving her a good going over with lice/red mite powder too, as its that time of year and once they are low with a cold you might find she has some even if you cant find them..as long as they are still eating and drinking all will be fine just may look a bit down for a while..

best of luck

Been trying to get hold of her real owner all day but no luck so far.
Would like to be able to keep her on her eggs but would much rather give her back if her illness may be passed onto any chicks that may hatch. Not sure what to do.

it could be a respiritory infection (and not necessarily myco which would pass through to her own eggs), also it may be due to different bedding. Try and find out if you are using different bedding first.
