muscovy ducks help
« on: October 17, 2009, 11:10 »
Hi, i have had my two muscovy ducks for 2 weeks now and everything is goingok, they free range the garden during the day, and they seem to have settled down with my cats they just ignore each other. the problem i seem to be having is the male is hassling the female, he chases her some times and goes to nip her. not all the time, sometimes they are asleep together and quite happy. Is this normal or should i being doing something, wasnt sure if he needed another female.

He probably needs another female so she doesn't get all his attention.
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

they live in a hen house 1x 1.25 m will that be big enough for 3?
the other problem i am having is that they came having been fed mixed corn since birth, i have just got them some breeders duck pellets, and they are not interested, to be fair they didnt eat a lot of moxed corn either as they spend all day finding things in the garden. should i just leave them be and they will eat when they need extra.

The house will be fine for 3 if not a couple more. The problem with feeding them just corn is that they are spoilt and won't want anything as boring as balanced breeder pellets. They do however provide all they need so I would persist with them. If you just give them the pellets for a few days they will go for them in the end. Mixed corn should just be a treat.
