Hi there, we have a problem with a neighbours cockerel , he moved in a few weeks before Christmas , and now regards our girls as part of his harem, he is very agressive and if I or my OH come between him and the girls he flys at our legs pecks and scratches, he is only doing what come naturally but is becoming a pest to us , anyone any ideas PLEASE .( WE HAVE BRUISES !) Don't you have fences or does he fly over to your garden / allotment ?

I would imagine if he is aggressive with you he will be aggressive with your neighbours too, he will probably get worse too with the lengthening days, only one way to go I'm afraid :(

Hi there thanks SO much for your help, our chooks are free range , as are our neighbours, with an area of woodland in between where all the chickens have a common area, ( and a "gang" hut ! LOL ) ,it would be a shame to fence them off as they are a sociable group , apart from him.
I guess the only way to go is to see how he goes and maybe have a word with our neighbour if he does get worse.

Can only agree with Foxy. He is likely to get worse as the days get longer. It's bad enough when it is your own cockerel. Perhaps ask your neighbours if they would clip his wings. :)

if they all range together in their common land and hut then he has no way of knowing that your girls are not his girls and you are just a threat to that. Sorry but he will get worse unless you can let him know that you are top chook (and even then that often doesn't work).
