Greetings - New Allotment
« on: April 11, 2019, 12:00 »
Good morning everyone,

I've been reading this forum for a few weeks now, after a 15 year wait, we have finally managed to get hold of an allotment. Very excited to finalising it all so I can get down there and start renovating the overgrowth.

The plan is to grow our own produce. I've so far been growing potatoes and strawberries in a little patch of the back yard with great success (<1Mx1.5M), I've set up a propagator and am currently geminating some crops to grow at home on a small scale, depending on if we get the allotment in a usable state:

Kidney Beans, Parsnips, Carrots, Sweet Corn, Chillis, Bell peppers, Raddishes, Tomatoes, Peas and Ginger.

We are also planning on getting some hens and at some point saving a rooster from the chop depending on how the hens get on. We were wanting to get some ex-batteries but after looking in to this, it appears to be a better idea to get POL hens to learn about them and then potentially introduce ex-batteries.

Time for me to get posting around the forum, cheers!

Welcome to the forum, and congratulations on being able to get an allotment at long last... what a wait!!! I am sure you have probably read John's articles on starting out with a new plot in not such good shape, but if not, they are in Articles & Advice in the green ribbon at the top of the page

Do take lots of pictures, as it will n doubt change really quickly, and it is good to look back and see the progress you will have made  :D
