Chicken manure, newspaper and compost heap!
« on: June 14, 2010, 10:52 »
I lay sheets of newspaper on the coop floor, every morning/evening I roll up the newspaper (keeping the poo nice and contained) and pop the roll in the bin.
I'm hoping to start a compost heap soon. Does anyone know if this roll of newspaper and poo will decompose properly in the heap?

yes it will although ideally the paper needs tearing up into smaller pieces.
Staffies are softer than you think.

I have just had Johns book Vegetable Growing Month by Month and have read in there that you can put newspaper and cardboard along with the chicken manure in your compost bin in layers with garden waste, but not to put too much newspaper in there.

Its a great book with loads of good tips (you can pay me later John) :tongue2: :tongue2: (Joking)
