Jalapeno Chillies and Tomatoes
« on: August 13, 2009, 13:44 »
I have some Jalapenos growing in my garden and some in my greenhouse in pots.  However, only some of them have developed black patches on them.  Could someone please advise me why this has happened and is there anything I can do about it?

Also, Some of my beef tomatoes have developed brown patches.  Have I done something wrong?  Have I overwatered?  Although the plum and cherry tomatoes seem to be okay.

I would be grateful for some advice. :(

Many thanks.
Klaus.

It looks as if the chillis are about to turn red....as long as the patches are not soft they are ok. As for the tomatoes.......it looks like blight to me  :(......what is the foliage like?

Many thanks for your information.  The chillies are quite firm but there is certainly no red showing.  The tomato foliage seems to be okay, there is the odd leaf that is turning brown but otherwise iut seems to be okay.  I have cut all the tomatoes with brown patches off - is there anything else I should be doing?

Once again, thank you for your reply.

A lot of chillis turn black before they turn red! :) Perhaps it is'nt blight if the foliage is okay....not sure what else it is. I'll go and have a check.

Are your tomatoes like this?

The chillis look fine, and as others have already said, turning black before fully ripe is quite usual for some  :D

As you may have gathered I am fairly new to gardening and to everyone who has replied to my query 'Many thanks'.

Ii is now more or less absolutely certain that the tomatoes are affected by blight and I will just have to bite the bullet and pull them up and dispose of them.  Hopefully my plum and cherry toms will be spared.

As far as the chillies are concerned I will watch them and see what happens.

Once again many thanks to you all.

Klaus.

Sorry to hear about your tomatoes Klaus.

I am new to growing too and spotted what looked like lots of black on my chillis in the greenhouse today - however on closer inspection some parts are going red - so they sound fine to me, just doing what they should do.
