And here's poor little me still waiting on an allotment coming free and propably with another 2-3 year wait.  Sniff.  Toss a coin, seems both sites have pros and cons.  

Move down here no one seems that interested where I am    only about 1/4 plots taken by the look of things. It's dead in the week, and quite on saturdays, you only get to talk to more than 2 peeps if you go on a Sunday.

I think maybe MUntjac is right - the Quantock hills are just to the north so the north wind will come down from there across the site. I had forgotten that, was only worrying about the east wind because that is colder, but north wind blows stuff away. And to have water right there and watch everyone else carrying it will be great.

The site is old pasture and you can have your plot skimmed of grass and rotavated for a fiver - local council is subsidising.

this year.fresh dug pasture its gonna be full of eel worm and chafer so ferget spuds this year and put a good doze of lime on it this will knock them back hard .
year 2
 manure hard the areas you want brassicas etc  select an area in year 2 for  taters to be planted in yr 3 lime this area again
 plant things that can tolerate the conditions . sow loads of green manure that winter to suck up the lime

year 3
 plant taters in the spring on that ground you may get a
bit of scab but it does'nt stop you eating them its just cosmetic . the next spring you can plant where you manured again with some manure for the spuds ....
now as you go through the plot you can add lime and manure to the parts you didnt do in the preceding season

heard yesterday got one!!! But they decided not to dig in the corners so ahave got a site on the south west corner. Any advice on good crops for the first year gratefully accepted.
