Painting chicken house
« on: October 14, 2011, 13:36 »
I would like to give my chicken house a coat of paint or stain before the winter.  Its a flyte so fancy house so it is already pressure treated wood (?) but I 'd just like to brighten it up abit and also the rain seeps through the roof in some places.
What is the best chicken friendly brand to use and does anyone paint the insides aswell?

Here is what one manufacturer provides, others will be available.

I wouldn't paint the inside at the risk of getting flakes in the future. You could do a search around this board as I'm sure its been discussed/asked before.  :)

The colour in the picture is "Seagrass" and it costs £19.99 per tin from B&Q.

We'd actually painted all the wood in our garden that colour a couple of years ago - the fences are still OK but the garden furniture and edges of the raised beds are starting to look like they need a new coat.  I think this is about the third year since they were first painted so it lasts quite well for garden paint although it's not that cheap so you'd expect it to really.  It doesn't really flake, it just sort of fades and then begins to rub off the wood.  I can honestly say that I've never noticed any flakes of paint coming off.

We've just finished painting the wood around the chicken run the same colour to match in with the rest of the garden.

Will it 'seal' the wood as there are a few places were the rain seeps in between the joints in the roof?  Or do I need another treatment?

I've just bought Country Cream for the walls and Wild Thyme for the roof.  Hopefully it'll look good.  Thanks for your help.   :)

It sounds as thought the rain is seeping between individual pieces of wood rather than through it :)
