Hi, i am new to the forum please can anyone give me some advice my poor orpington hen as not been well for the last few days but she eats ok but is no longer laying all her face as gone a pale white and today the cockral does not seem to well be very greatful for you advice    zig-zag

looks like  a virus has hit i cant say what it is as i cant see thge birds and then its hard to find anyways ,try keeping them awarm in the house with food and water . any other signs you can see ?

Thanks for reply they eating well but seem to look unwell    they whole face as gone white it was a nice red they seem od with white faces i have them both in they own pen from the other birds  at first the hen was like this know the cockral as gone the same                 thanks zig-zag

Long shot but have you checked for mites ? could the pale faces be caused by anaemia from the blood sucking ? What are their combs like ?

no worries  you can try worming them in the week this may help with ailments. also try some dandelion leaves .... you may consider getting a course of antibiotics if the vet you have knows what they are doing with poultry .. which many dont .... you will need to take the birds to him of course for a full diagnosis

 as above .check for tics also.......deer ticks will attach themselves to chickens

yes i did have mites  but have them under control i hope as i cannot find any in were they are sleep and somtimes eat but had them very bad down the other end of my allotment were i keep a few more hens as for  they combs are white do you think it could be mite                          cheers zig-zag

I think red mite is the forst thing to work on.  If that fails go with Munty's other sugestions
