Updated Picture of Holey Egg-With Cord!!!
« on: June 19, 2010, 11:23 »
Hi,I started a topic asking if anyone knew why one of my girls is laying holey eggs!

This is today's egg, this is the third in a complete week-never had this problem before,as I said before the only difference is-they have had cod live oil in their feed this week-for moulting and the hen which this comes from-a gingernut ranger was attacked by next doors cat!

Please, any advice would be really helpful from all the profs on the site.

I've never seen anything like that before.

Definitely some sort of production line problem.  It looks like she forgot to stop making the shell membrane at the right time  ::)

I don't think there is anything you can do just hope she pays more attention to her quality control  ;)

I have had something similar not long ago but only once - a tiny hole at the top of the egg as if someone was going to 'blow' it and then when I cracked it open it had a very large chord thing inside as well as a normal yoke and white. I fed it to the dog and she suffered no ill effects! :D Hasn't happened again but I'm presuming it was from the same girl who then laid a couple of softies. She has been fine over the last ten days or so, so I figure she was just getting into the swing of laying.
