Still no eggs
« on: April 04, 2010, 18:16 »
I have not had any eggs from my 3 girls for a week now, I dont know whats gone wrong, they are all just over a year old, 18 months at most .
Anyone got any ideas?

Are they eating and drinking ok? Are they moulting or broody? Could they be laying elsewhere? Mine do this from time to time so worth checking around  :)

Hi joyful, they are eating and drinking loads(as usual)
Apparently when we got them a month ago they were just coming out of moult so they should be finished now?
They aren't free range but I havechecked their coop and run for eggs but theres none.

Can something get in to steal them like a magpie/crow or rat?

HI, thanks for replies.
Do you think putting 3rd chuck in there 2 weeks after first 2 could have upset all 3? If so will they start laying  again?
They aren't ex batts so shouldn't have run out of eggs.
No chance of anything stealing eggs, kits all really secure

What are you feeding them on.  I guess pretty standard these days is pellets/mash in the morning and grain of soem sort int he evening?

Sometimes, taking away the grain and feeding just the layers mix twice a day (or free choice if that's what you do) can trigger them to lay.  Basically upping the protein % for a few days.

yes putting the new bird in could have upset them, don't worry they will settle down and if you want to encourage them again then put either a golf ball or a plastic/pot/rubber egg in the nest box  :)
