I have done it both ways - blanching and just freezing them once I pulled them, cleaned them and sliced them. As indeed I did the other month with the rest of the parsnips.

There was no difference in taste or texture at all to the leeks when I came to use some of them.

(With the parsnips, they did go a bit browner when defrosted with those I did not blanch first but tasted great)

I still have a few leeks in the ground at school, and really want to put the spuds in that bit.

Freezing is a good idea before the go to seed -- thank you  :D

I dug up the rest of mine yesterday, gave a few away, will freeze the rest either as leek & potato soup or just chopped as suggested above
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I have always just chopped them up and put them straight into the freezer.  It means you can make a pot of soup really quickly when you want.

There are lots of threads on this but can I recommend Aunt Sally's approach in this one?  I did as she said for the white part of the leeks and they have been invaluable chucked into casseroles or even steamed as a simple veg (there are still several pounds of them left in the freezer :D).

The tops were turned into leek and potato soup, some eaten and some frozen - which is the most glorious dark green colour!  Just asks for a swirl of cream on top ...
