Title: fertilizer
Post by: Charl89 on February 19, 2013, 19:06
ok i was naughty and havent fertilized the ground for this year. last year just ran past me and then i was away all of jan and part of feb and got back a week ago.

will the ground be ok if i just do compost and bone meal and also fish, blood and bone?
i will be growing potatoes, beans and peas, onions, leeks, sweetcorn, salad stuff. is there anything extra i would need to add to the ground for these to help them along?

Try some Vitax Q4 we have had good results with it, although it has gone up in price enormously over the past few years.

I always chuck rock dust and seaweed meal down right at the beginning of the year, when I tidy the beds and get them ready. Then I periodically use BFB and chicken manure pellets through the year. I've got some baby comfrey plants for the first time this year, but not sure how much I'll be able to cut from them until they've grown a bit more.

Why not chuck a few handfuls of 6X around, we're in the same boat as you, and aren't at all worried, as the winter is still in a grip!

In fact, we bought some Levingtons Organic (we're not) manure in bags for a song, and that's got a good seeing to as well!

We're way behind down here, and couldn't really worry at all, as what slows down now, speeds up later, and you'll be fine - believe me!
