Some of our hens have severe feather loss just on their backs. We thought at first this was due to our over amourous cockerel but now I am not so sure.  We have dusted them for mites, they do not seem to be pecking each other and they are not loosing feathers from anywhere else other then on their backs.  Our poor girls are looking almost oven ready!! any ideas?

Hi Manoir, it probably is the result of your cockerel.  If you can't separate him from his ladies for a couple of weeks, you could try poultry saddles.

If you do try saddles, keep a close eny underneath for creepy crawlies, and other skin conditions, as I've hears they can get quite warm under them.

Thank you, I have tried poultry saddles before but I will try again, I dont like to separate the girls from their man becouse they dont like it but maybe it has to be done.  Thanks.
