We are thinking of getting some chickens for a fresh supply of eggs,so any advice would be greatfully appreciated

well how much room do you have for them as this will determine what breed you will have

our back garden is roughly 60ft by 30 ft,was thinking of penning a area off for thembut they will have the run of the garden,if this is advisable

well if you can let the free range then its much better for them

as for the size of your plot the world is your oyster breed wise

i my self have light sussex in the incubator at the mo

they lay around 270 eggs a year

Warrens would be my choice for a first time hen keeper nice docile bird very friendly & lay like maniacs. At the mo I've got rhode island red x light sussex nice bird bigger than a warren so they eat a bit more, found these to be a little noisy compared to the warrens and they are still not over friendly good thing I suppose as we intend to eat them eventually.
