Christmas Veg Bed
« on: December 17, 2009, 20:40 »
I'll be dividing things up next year into 8x4 beds. I've been considering a Christmas Veg Bed. The idea being rather than growing masses of 1 particular veg I'd grow just enough for Christmas day lunch.

So far I've added Savoy cabbage, Red cabbage, sprouts, parsnips and carrots I think I should have at least 8sq feet left - what else can I / should I add.

My Christmas veg is in tubs in the unheated greenhouse. Leeks, parsnips and baby carrots... to which will be added spuds and a Turkey  :)

Even if we have two feet of snow I'll be tucking into fresh veg on Christmas day. You must have a big family to need an 8 x 4 bed for one day's veg  ;)

Theres something very satisfying about it. Not the same if its from the freezer though.

I was actually concerned it wasn't enough.... I will try and make them last 2 meals though.....   :tongue2:  :tongue2:

As Cooperman says "Wot ?? no Brussels" they're compulsory you know.

When you put the turkey in you will have to put a fence across to stop it eating the veg!
