Lettuce Problem

Hello,

Wondering if someone can help, I planted out some lettuce about 3 weeks ago they have been growing ok and I have had them protected by fleece from the frost. Yesterday I noticed a couple of them seemed to be wilting when I looked at them the whole plant had no roots. Today I noticed others which have fallen to the same problem. Does anyone have any ideas?

It might be worth mentioning that today I noticed one small pile of curly looking mud which i believe is some form of worm things, could this be the problem??

I have these planted in a raised bed and the rest of the veg seem to be ok??

Have a scrape around the base of the wilted lettuce and see if there are any grubs about 25mm long and a greyish colour. If there are they are leather jacket grubs (daddy-long-legs) and they love lettuce. I planted 30 plants out in April and I have now 3 left. I tried treating the ground with nematodes but they don't appear to be working yet.

thanks Ill have a look the lettuce not very big yet so i will def see something 25mm long! If it is that anyone have any suggestions?
