Feeling stuffed after dinner in the garden. We had to move close to the wall as a sneaky wind blew up, but it's not often the weather is this good and warm on Christmas day so we weren't going to be put off.

Wow that looks really great. Especially the veggie dinner. I am not a vegetarian but I think I would have gone for the veggie dinner.
What was the veggie option?
Since growing our own I find I prefer the vegetable dishes more than the roast meat.
How lovely to eat it outside.

It's not normal to eat out in December. Like the UK, we are expecting snow, unlike the UK we are expecting temps of -14!!!!
Mrs Bee, we have a walnut tree and have grown all our own veg this year so nut roast was for me. OH felt he had to have at least some of his home produced goose, but he threw the skin and fat away so I had to stuff with a fruity stuffing and wrap it in ham and pork fat. Still looked dry but he will happily eat my roast tomorrow. And he doesn't like bread sauce....how odd! :lol:

How lovely, walnut roast sounds wonderful, I love walnuts but have never had them fresh.

Tosca it looked really lovely. What was the dish at the front of the veggie plate that looked intriguing.
If you have a walnut tree I have a walnut and cheese burger recipe that I have been making for years, not 'cos we are veggies but because we like the taste.
I will send it to you if you would like it.

Most people have a walnut tree here Mrs Bee and they grow in the hedgerows too, as do most fruits and nuts. Walnuts are totally different fresh, as are almonds (if you can get them, I have a friend....) I believe the ones in the shops have been in storage for some time so although they are OK, they lose the fresh tasting juiciness we have. This year was a bad year and I have had to shell them rather than storing mouldy ones due to the wet and hot humid summer. Last year they were better. They freeze well and I use them in everything from cakes, stuffings, burgers and sausages, salads and snacks (great candied or spiced) The gypsies trawl round trying to buy any that they can, but they are worth more than money to us.
I am always up for a recommended recipe. I am bad for making things up as I go along then forgetting what I put in and when they turn out well get cross that I didn't keep track.
Not sure which dish you mean, but there were honey roast parsnips and fruity stuffing....which we didn't need but I made too much for the goose breast. It's lovely to pick on, much more to my taste than mince pies!

I think its the fruity stuffing, looks lovely and the sunshine looks glorious. I could do with an hour of that. ;)

I've found some walnut trees about 5 mins from my house but they don't crop every year. Yummy

Haha There will be none next year...they've pollarded the flaming tree! said it was getting out of hand. We have planted two of our own five year old trees (2 quid each) but it will be a while before they produce I think.
