I thought it was a good deal so I'm sharing it.
(It's my first time making Jam)

I really like Nutleys - good service each time I've used them.
-
Thats nice to know. Thank you. I thought 1/2 ib jars would be less wasteful over time as we don't eat that much jam.
-
Gosh, I never had to buy jars in the UK as I always kept mine rather than recycling. Over here, with bottling being a way of life, you can get strong 2lb jars (minus lids, bought by the 50 for a quid) for about £1.50 a dozen, small, fancy ones with lid £2 a dozen.
So glad I wasn't tempted to buy any before we came out.....though I did think of it, knowing I had fruit trees.

I was short of jars for the strawberry glut this year.
A short plea on Freegle soon sorted that out at no cost. I now have a glut of jars!
-
Do you have to buy lids seperate
-
The description is .....
24 of the bestselling 8oz hexagonal jam jars
Plus 24 self-adhesive dotty labels in red, blue and green
All in a sturdy, reusable jar box
Each jar stands 9cm high x 6cm diameter with gold twist-off lids
(I am in no way connected with these companies. Its my first time doing jam and so I just looked around)

They look great!
I spent a bit more in my local kitchen supplies shop. I know I could have saved jars, but I was making jelly as gifts and I wanted them to look smarter than they would have otherwise. :nowink:
-
Looks good.
-
I have also bought jars as all the same stack nicely ! :)

Not the only mad one around here but it is true
-
I was going to put the spare ones, in the box, in the loft. So it seems neater.
-
I got some free kitchen wall cupboards they are going up in the garage and the summerhouse ! latter for barby plates and such .
-
At Hampton Court they were showing complete outdoor kitchens. Amazing, and expensive.
-
Those kitchens did look stunning - we were admiring them a fair amount. If I ever get my 'grand design' it will include one!
-
1 is enough I don't need 2 :)

Brian isn't keen on my jam, he has a thing about this scottish company who, I must say, do make very nice jam, and they come in ½lb jars. I don't eat much jam at the moment, so I usually give my excess jars away on Freegle. I'm not going to make much wine either at the moment, so may give most of my wine bottles away too.
Shame you weren't nearer BobE, I would have gladly given you some. Although these ones are round, they do stack well too!

Thank you for the thought Grannie. You could lay down some wine for a long time. Just tuck it away someware.

You obviously don't know me very well yet Bob! ;) ;)

What!! youve got gallons of the stuff gradually aging away?
-
Equipment has arrived.
The new jars are in the box, one is out next to the coffee mug. They are quite diddy.
I'll try to get a better shot before I start. I need to buy sugar and Meths first.

No, I drank it all before I started my diet!

Wine and diets don't work well together, but you look pretty trim in your picture.

Ahhhh, that picture is of me 27 years ago when I lost 5stone with weightwatchers. It is to remind me of what I DID look like, and I know I will never look quite as good as that again, being an ugly old *** now, but nearly 3 stone down. Only 4 to go! ;)
And yes, I do have to watch what I drink now. If I'm lucky, one glass of wine Friday and Saturday night, or if no wine, then a lager and lime or a shandy. I can make a can of lager last 2 nights, how's that? But I am going off topic here! Sorry!

I think this thread has run its course. When I make my first jam I will try to document it and start a new thread. Unless its an embarrasing disaster.

Hope you are pleased with your first results BobE. I love it when my jam comes out right, but I do have mistakes where sometimes it doesn't set enough no matter what I do to it, and others like my lovely plum jam once that I had to cut into chunks!

I'm going to follow "Vals" book to the letter. Even the tests. I'll try to post what takes place.
-
Yeah, let us know how it goes! Val is very good at jams and chutneys, and everything else she does really! :)
