Not really a growing question, but more a food one.

Saw some for sale in the food section of a large supermarket (M) and they looked all shriveled up, upon feeling them they were leathery.

I would have thought for eating, they would be freshly dug, plump and full of moisture, these looked more like a dry tuber to plant.

Am I wrong in thinking this ?

For planting, those would be okay. For eating, give them a miss.

I got a huge surprise this past fall. The giant coreopsis plants I set around a tall clothesline post started to spread into the neighbour's yard so I pulled out some to control them. I was horrified to find I had an extremely healthy crop of JA's that were growing in the worst soil (and I mean rocks, concrete and scrabble) of my whole property    ???

Coreopsis plant my eye!  I'd always vowed I'd never have JA's on the property.

Well what do you expect? When were supermarket vegetables ever fresh?

Mind you the last time I grew JAs I eventually got rid of them by strimming them down to nothing every week. Not something I will give space to. (Waits for response from people who like them ...   :D)
