Hi, I have 4 caulis bought as plantlets from an online supplier. Planted in summer, the variety is Chester . There are no heads, just dense swirls of leaves coming to a pointy head but no white core in the middle. Is it too late now and should I resign myself to a failed crop, or could the head still form? Thank you.

I will give mine a fair bit more time yet.
I have got plenty of free space at the moment so no rush.

If the plants look healthy I am sure they will come into flower... remember it is a flower you are growing. I had some bad luck with my F1 hybrid seeds last year. I think they got too hot and only 3 seeds from 25 actually germinated et voila three lovely cauliflowers just this last fortnight. I have more seed for this autumn but will be careful and sow only say ten seeds and see how they go. I have non F1 seeds as well which I will sow as well but F1 is the way to go with brassicas in my opinion if you want a decent plant.

I believe that Chester is a 'late' overwintering variety for harvesting late April/May so plenty of time yet.
