Title: Keeping cream Cauliflower heads!
Post by: Maxine Groobey on July 12, 2010, 22:55
Can anybody let me know how to keep my cauli heads cream/White? They have just started developing and I though I remember being told that to keep the pale colour they need to be shaded? Any advice on the best way to care for them please?

Bend a couple of leaves over the curd

Simples! (sorry )

As Peapod says, I grab some of the inner leaves as soon as I notice the curd forming and sling an elastic band round them to totally cover the white bit. It then only takes a week to ten days before they are ready to dig up.

Thought something like that but sounded too easy! Thanks, didn't realise they would be ready that soon though! Can't wait! Who would have thought it would be so exciting? Only my second year with brassicas in over 20 growing veg! Still, constant battle with slugs and snails and yesterday I spent most of the day fighting off a solitary cabbage White determined to lay it's eggs! Lol

If you can see your cauli's curds, keep a very close eye on them, they can soon "blow".

I have used a peg to hold the leaves over, seems to work!
