Hi Everyone, among the things I was "allowed" to have from my stepfather after my mother died was her tin of seeds.  She LOVED sweet peas and last year i told her how to collect the seeds which she did.  Can anyone tell me the best way to start them? Is it too cold yet? and should i soak them? I only have a few so I dont want to waste them. Many thanks xx

I usually soak sweet peas the night before I want to sow    As you only have a few, I would keep them inside until they have germinated, but then they need cooler conditions.  If you haven't got a greenhouse or coldframe to put them into, I would hold off a bit.

How lovely make sure you take some really lovely photos of them and mybe press a few.

Don't sow them all at the same time. 

Keep a few for backup in case of disaster with the first ones

And save some of the seeds from those flowers, so you can keep them going year on year. What a lovely memory to have of your Mum

Thank you everyone!!!  I do have a heated propagator, and two greenhouses but they are not heated, my mum was a big WW1 historian and I planted some "flying the flag" variety in October which are doing well in the greenhouse.  I think I may start my mums off in the heated propagator maybe in March, and then transfer to greenhouse. I do plan on taking seeds from my mums too to continue the line.

Thanks for your support everyone, my stepdad wont allow me to keep moms garden nice or grow sweet peas in it, he said it is not her house anymore.

How very sad for you that your stepdad is behaving like this towards you about your mums garden. At least you have her seeds so her gardening will live on with you

Well, he didn't love her, he admitted that after she died. But I loved her very much xx
