Looking for help with clubroot
« on: October 06, 2007, 12:51 »
Have just taken over a new allotment which I have just learnt is awash with clubroot.  Does anyone have any clues as how to get rid of this as I can't wait 20= years for my brassica

club root control
you dont have to wait  you can plant next year with no problems just get hold of large bag of lime  and put this down where your intending to plant brassicas .. including turnips sweedes etc ... put 2.oz per sq yard down and then buy some club root control from garden suppliers .. you will still have it but under control it will still feed ya good  veggies

pop up to welcome and introduce yaself matey ...  :D
still alive /............

I don't have clubroot (happily) but understand that you should bring on your brassicas in containers so that they have a much larger root system when you plant them out.  Obviously the containers should be filled with soil/compost which is free from clubroot.

That's what I do, as I have clubroot problems. I use seed tray inserts, one seed per plant plug, then pot on into 3" pots. As WG they start with a decent root system & have half a chance.

The other advantage is that it make your seed go further!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

i always grow my brassica's   as little plugs then onto 3 inch pots etc . makes for great plants and you can select the best for your own garden and sell the rest ..... strange this year i havent seen many cabbage plants etc for sale in the village except mine  :? usually have a few the other side of the village , was this same around you folks? :)

Ive just discovered club root on part of my plot (i think). My plan was to use 3" peat pots next year and put  them in the ground in the pots. Would that be any good???
