DH has vetoed PM  >:( saying we can't justify cost and would rather wait and see what happens to the others.  He has a point; by the time any results come through we will probably know either way for the rest of them.
Can't help thinking that if it's something easily treatable early on e.g. with antibiotics, then it might be worth it, but he's as stubborn as me so I don't think I'm going to win with this one...

I never asked my oh when I had a pm done on one of mine - I just took it and got it done for the sake of my other birds  :(.
Staffies are softer than you think.

Yes, should've done that ideally, but unfortunately I won't get home from work till 11pm tonight and wouldn't be able to get to vet's in time tomorrow morning (again, work, humph) ... so he would've had to take her this evening himself (along with putting kids to bed, walking dog etc!).  Not going to happen, sadly...

I think tbh it has made him think that we have too many chooks anyway and that this might make us scale down a bit - we only have 11 though  ::) - they have an enormous area to free range.  Anyway, thoughts for the future...

Thanks for all your advice and help, much appreciated.

Sadly Coco was no better so we had to put her out of her misery.  Feeling very sorry for myself and keeping everything crossed for the rest of the flock...
Thanks to everyone for the advice and support.

You did your best for her.

Shame you not having a PM, it would have been worth it to me to know if the rest of the birds were in danger and then be able to give treatment before they got so ill as Coco.

Thanks.  I agree that a PM would have been good, but I have long learnt that there are some things are not worth getting into a fight about with dh, and I know when I'm not going to win...  Next time (fingers crossed there won't be one) I will do it without telling him!

tbh I think it was probably infectious laryngotracheitis, which as far as I understand it is viral and so not treatable with antibiotics, and we don't have capacity/capability/funds for vaccination, so if they all come down with it it'll be tlc + a cull sadly :-(
