Why do they say to put pumpkins on a piece of glass and when do you start to do that?
All the way from my allotment in beautiful Derbyshire. I'm in year 3 of my allotment and wish I'd caught the bug years ago, things growing from strength to strength

I wouldn't recommend glass from a safety point of view, but anything like an old tile, piece of slate etc. can be used.

It's just a barrier between the pumpkin and the soil to stop the nasties burrowing in.

Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Wow! That's one BIG phone!  :)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

Well, despite Morgan the bleedin' stupid labrador happily treading all over my pumpkin patch, my four jack o lanterns and 1 atlantic giant are still going strong, not quite stopped them yet, I'm waiting till they've grown a little bit first, they're only tennis ball size at the moment!

I have five growing on one bush at the moment, I know I should stop the plant but it is the only one fruiting and it is so lush that I cannot do it.  ::)

I was wondering about putting something underneath the fruit..  Fear I may be too late though!  How easily do the stems break?
