worming, im confused (dont take much) lol
« on: March 16, 2011, 06:57 »
ok, my girls are due to be wormed the end of the month. i have been looking around at the worming stuff, but it all seems a bit confusing on the doseage side of things. is there  nothing that just says feed this to them every day for a week, without having to measure and work out weights, sizes number of scoops and the position of the moon  :tongue2:.
maybe im reading it all wrong, and making it more confusing than it is. please help

What have you got to worm them with Needssomehelp.

Flubenvet 1% is the best stuff.  That is 6 grams of powder per 2kg feed.  You need a decent set of electronic kitchen scales to get the 6 grams.  I usually measure out the feed, take a bit of it and mix the wormer thoroughly into that.  Then mix this thoroughly into the rest of the 2kg.  A tiny dash of vegetable oil helps the powder adhere to the feed.

I put the medicated feed into a bag and feed this for the 7 days - there is not a set dose per day, just your usual daily feed ration, so if you know roughly what that is you can work out how many 2kg batches you need to last 7 days  :)

And don't forget the second most important thing, only feed them with the feed, NO treats, No free ranging, they need to only take the pellet for the 7 day period.
 ;)
In the Fulbenvet box there is normaly a little 6g scoop to make it easy to measure.

I worm regularly (3 months). I got 2 new hens a few weeks ago and noticed worms in their poo so am currently worming using fluebevent.
The question I have is if there was worms in their poo, eggs could go into the soil etc in their run. Is there something I can spray on the ground that can be effective in killing also?
I use Jeyes fluid and poultry shield when cleaning them out.

mine are on a soil base run and everytime I worm them I remove the top layer and replace with new after the severn days so as to make sure I stop the cycle.
