digalotty makes a good point.

There are loads of things you can plant that will produce this year, but there are also others that you can plan for now for next year's harvest.

Last year was a big learning curve for me here in the U.K. but one of the things I'm most happy about is that I planted strawberries in September. I now have a crop of HUGE berries and am making starts for gardening friends.
