New chickens
« on: September 29, 2009, 14:44 »
We bought some chickens lat week (5) and this week we bought three more from the same farm where they were originally roamed together.

The original flock seem to be really bullying all the 3 newer ones.

Is this usual? Is this part of the pecking order? If so how log will it go on for as its quite disressing to us aswel!!

Thanks for any advice

yes this is perfectly normal as the original girls will have now become a new flock and you have introduced new ones into their home. It can last for upto 3 weeks. You can either leave them to get on with it (which I usually do and this gets it over quicker (or so I have found) or you can put the new girls into a seperate run but in full sight of the others (which alot of people on here do) and get them used to seeing each other and then introduce them after a period of time. Good luck with whichever method you choose to follow.
Staffies are softer than you think.

Its normal.  It will stop in a couple of weeks. I would suggest you get some purple (violet) spray just in case of any wounds.

How big is your coop and run?
