mixing chicks with older hens
« on: July 13, 2009, 12:03 »
Hi, my chicks are now 2 weeks old and have the run of part of the garden with their mum. How soon can I put them  together with my other 2 chickens?

How big are they? I would think 2 weeks is still a bit young?
I usually integrate mum and babies from about 4 wks onwards :)

Also depends alot on the amount of room they all have, if they're in a run you may find the older hens pick on the babies where as if they're free ranging the mum will take the babies away from the others :)

The 2 older hens have the run of the garden except for the bit that mum and 7 chicks are in, it's only a small area  and will soon be crowded. I just want to give them all plenty of room.
