Hi all :D

Diatom, it seems to be able to be used for a lot of things, does it really do what it says on the tin?!!  LOL

Is it good for red mite, and can it rid worms?

In what quantities do you use it, for which specific thing?

Can I use it on the dog too and in the house?

Loving the forum and the amount of info  :D  :D

Diatom...I love it! I use it mainly in the henhouse but do add a little from time to time to their feed and also that of my other birds. It does make great claims and has won lots of awards...and...it's all totally natural! It's not cheap but, if it delivers what it says on the tub, what fantastic value!! Yes I have found that it definately gets rid of mites and lice...painfully I hope!!

I've always used it as a red mite deterrent and I thinkit is probably effective (never had red mite).  I also add it to the dust bath in the hen's run to prevent lice (never had lice.  I've never used it as a feed adative though, but quite a lot of people do.

I have found that it has rid 3 of my hens of lice and kept them clear...but the araucana seems to have gained all of theirs   I check them all over every week and give them a light dusting. Azzie gets a heavy dusting, but she was still crawling with the perishers yesteday :(  :(
I don't know how good it is a preventing red mite. We had a problem with them before I got the Diatom and so used a spray to kill them off.
I just wish it would kill off rats too!!

Think I'll get some and give it a try, as it's natural it's more appealing to me than anything with chemicals.  Talking about those little mites, makes me itch already LOL

As for rats, not looking forward to facing any of those even though I was going to keep a pet rat at one stage - but there's something evil about the wild ones!

It's good for lice and mites, but I would not rely on it to prevent worms. It would certainly not be effective against lungworm !
