I have always been sceptical about the effectiveness of hanging C.D's to deter birds. After losing my redcurrants to hungry birds for several years, I netted my one plant last year but found it rather a fuss to disentangle the branches and trusses of fruit from the net, not to mention the fat little thrush who found his way under the net.
This year I hung a load of old C.D's around the plant and the berries were virtually untouched. I harvested 3.7kgs, after removing all strigs, from one bush.
